Position Summary:

The Tool & Die Maker will plan, layout, and perform all bench and machine operations to construct, alter and repair tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, etc. while executing a high degree of skill and knowledge of tooling practice and application.  Work from complicated drawings and specifications, use a wide variety of precision instruments for exacting measurements.  Lay out work and plan machining bench procedures.  Perform close and exacting bench and assembly operations to fit, align, and calibrate, adjust, assemble and finish work.

Essential Responsibilities:

·         Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, jigs and fixtures and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.

·         Establish a system and schedule for preventative maintenance for all tooling and dies.

·         Establish setup procedures and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper and grinder to machine parts and verify conformance of machine parts to specifications.

·         Study blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to ensure setup and tool are producing first piece articles that meet specifications.

·         Adherence to all safety and environmental requirements.

·         No travel required

 

Basic Qualifications:

·         Four-year tool and die apprenticeship completion or equivalent combination of education and experience

·         Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures

·         Ability to apply mathematical concepts

·         Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of problems

 

Desired Experience and Traits:

·         Four-year tool and die apprenticeship   

 

Educational Requirements:

  • Completion of apprenticeship and/or tool & die education
